Repertoire Category 2

Applicants who have been allocated to Category 2 must chose their repertoire according to the guidelines set out below. Applicants must notify the Directors of their chosen programme by 30th September 2014.

All works may be performed with the score if desired. Competitors are asked to contact the artistic directors in all cases where they intend to play modern or contemporary music. If the contestant overruns the allotted time, the jury may stop the performance.

Round 1 (10-15 mins)

Applicants must play one piece from each of (a), (b) and (c), below:

(a) One Sonata by Soler or Scarlatti, or any Prelude and Fugue by Bach.

(b) First movement or a fast movement of a classical sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven.

(c) A piece of your own choice.

 

Round 2 (not less than 20 mins and not exceeding 25 mins)

Applicants must prepare one piece or several from (a) and (b) below however the choice must include at least one Romantic work and one work from the 20th century.

(a) One or several Romantics work by composers such as Mendelssohn, Chopin, Liszt, Schumann, Brahms. 

(b) One work or several pieces from the works of any composer from the 20th or 21st Century (including Applicants' own compositions). Copies of the scores of own compositions and less widely available music from this era must be provided in advance to the directors.

 

Final

A recital of 30 minutes minimum duration and 35 minutes maximum duration of free chosen repertoire. Only one work can be repeated from the previous rounds.
