London - September 30th, 2012

Monday the 1st of October marks the first day of the Open Piano Competition to be held in London over the course of a week. The competition involves three rounds, the first taking place over 1st and 2nd of October in Steinway Hall London in the heart of Marylebone. Chopin, Rachmaninov, Bach, Mozart, Scriabin, Haydn and Beethoven: these are just some of the great composers tackled by the pianist throgh the various stages of the competition to showcase their talents and secure the approval of the jury and cash prizes of over £5,000.  

After the first round, successful competitors will get through to the second stage held in St. Olave's Church in the City over the 4th and 5th of October. Performances are open to the public and the admission is free, attendance is highly recommended with a chance to listen to up to 20 competitors performing 20 to 25 minutes each. 

Six successful candidates will be selected to go through to the final which will be held in Grosvenor Chapel in Mayfair on Monday the 8th of October, doors open at 5:15pm with the firts performance due to start at 5:30pm and the last at 8:40pm. You are welcome to attend for just part of the evening, either leaving early or arriving later but you will asked to wait for the applause in between competitors to enter or leave with each performance lasting approximately 30-35 minutes.

Tickets to the final are just £10 and are available online at www.openpianocompetition.com/tickets or on the door until sold out. 

Several of the competitors already live in London and are students at one of the many music colleges of the capital but the majority have been travelling from European countries such as France, Italy and Poland, others from as far as Honk Kong, Russia and the USA to take part in this first edition of the Open Piano Competition.
